Background:

According to wikipedia, BCAA, branched-chain amino acids, namely, leucine, isoleucine and valine, account for 35% of essential amino acids in human muscle.  For this reason, BCAA may help muscle repair and muscle growth.  This means that these amino acids are very important to body builders and old people.  Old people lose muscle at a rate of 1% per year.

Successful body builders are likely using these BCAA while few old people may have realized the importance of these amino acids to their muscle.  When an old person suffer excess muscle loss, his bones are at higher risk of fractures.

Also according to wikipedia, dietary BCAA supplementation has been clinically used to help burn victims.  However, for patients who suffer burns, trauma, and sepsis, leucine alone, but not the mixture of the trio should be used for a better efficacy.
